Trip Overview

Lower Dolpo Trek has own charm with its remote and isolated areas. It was opened in 1982 for the trekkers. The trek crosses three high passes of this region such as Kangmara La (5,115m), Numa La (5,159m) and Baga La (5,190m). Lower Dolpo is home to popular Shey Phoksundo National Park. Our trek leads us through the protected area and takes us to superb Phoksundo Lake with beautiful flora and fauna. It is situated in Karnali region of Nepal and requires special trekking permit from the immigration because of the restricted area. Dolpo region is a very dry and unproductive area. So, the daily life is very difficult but they were very humble and friendliness with their smiling faces. Population of Dolpo region is very low which is less than 5000.

Lower Dolpo Trek begins from Juphal and ends at Juphal. It is a moderately strenuous walk along the lower part of Dolpo. Shey Phoksundo lake is the deepest lake of Nepal which is situated at the height of 3,611.5 m in this region. Since the route opened, it become very popular among the trekkers and this route is famous treks in the western Nepal. Beautiful lakes, ancient villages, people life style, Buddhist monasteries, Tibetan plateau and the traditional culture are the main attraction of the trek.

Due to its nearness to the Tibetan border, Dolpo people follows Tibetan Buddhism. Dolpo?s inhabitants still earn their livelihood by trading items like salt, cotton, barley and rice in Tibet. During the trek, we also come across traders walking with yaks laden with such items.

We do not force to trek or follow this itinerary day to day, it can be minimize as well as prolong as your wish. We can arrange the trip to begins on any date during the trekking season which is March through May and September to December in Nepal according yours time frame.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu. (1355m) After you land at Tribhuwan International airport, you will be welcomed by our office representative. As he will be holding your name plate, it will be easy for you to recognize him. Then after, he will transfer you to the hotel. You can freshen up and have some walk around Thamel. At the evening our guide will give some briefing about our trek and routes. Overnight at hotel inclusive Breakfast.
Day 2 : Fly to Nepalgunj Today, we will fly to the western side of Nepal. It is about 1 hour flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Situated nearby Nepal-India border, Nepalgunj offers you the taste of both Hindu and Muslim culture. Then after return to hotel. Overnight at hotel inclusive BLD.
Day 3 : Flight to Juphal (2320m) then trek to Dunai (2850m) - 3 hrs walk After our breakfast, we will catch another flight to reach Juphal. It will consume about 45 minutes to reach to Juphal with a scenic view of mountains. After reach Juphal, you can have the views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks to the north. After then our trekking starts. Going through terraced farming and some narrow Georges, It is about 2-3 hours to reach to Dunai. Dunai is administrative headquarter of the Dolpo region. If you want then you can roam around Dunai. Overnight at Dunai inclusive BLD.
Day 4 : Trek to Tarakot (2543m) - 6 hrs walk We will start our trekking in the morning after having breakfast. Following the river, the trial goes through deep Georges, suspension bridges, pine trees and some beautiful villages. Furthermore, attractive terraced field welcomes us with warm greetings in Tarakot- a small village of locals. This village is situated on the southern side of Bheri River on a hillock. Overnight at Tarakot inclusive BLD.
Day 5 : Trek to Laini (3170m) - 6 hrs walk After breakfast we will leave for Laini which is about 6-7 hours walk. We will catch a way following the Tarap Chu River. We have to cross some suspension bridges and the same river again. We can see a famous Gompa named Sandul Gompa little further on a junction where Barbung River and Tarap Chu River meet. The trial goes through terraced farming inside some beautiful villages. Then walking downwards for some time, we will be at Laini. Overnight at Laini inclusive BLD.
Day 6 : Trek to Nawarpani (3545m) - 7 hrs walk We will start our trek in early morning after our breakfast. We will leave for Nawarpani, we will continue following Tarap Chu River walking on the way made by steep stones. You can feel real different experience of walking today, because you will get some narrow gorges on the way where you have to jump from one place to another. On the way, the path disappears in some places where we have to make the way on our own effort. We have to place logs between the stones which will work as bridge. These will really an exciting walk. Walking little furthermore, we will reach Nawarpani. Overnight at Nawarpani inclusive BLD.
Day 7 : Trek to Do Tarap (4090m)- 8 hrs walk Today we will walk for Do Tarap. Do Tarap is a small village inhabited by Bon Po and Chaiba tribes, few Tibetans and Magars. It is about 7-8 hours walk. On the way we cross a junction point of the Tarap Chu and Lang Khola. Going ahead we will pass through narrow gorges, Juniper bushes, Wild roses and classic dry Himalayan valleys. Then after walking for more 3 hours, we reach to Do Tarap village. Overnight at Do Tarap inclusive BLD.
Day 8 : Acclimatization day at Dho Tarap Today we will have rest at Dho Tarap and have sightseeing. We will Visit some of the famous local monasteries and enjoy the scenic view from Dho Tarap. You can have a half hour walk and visit the Buddhist Gompa which is just little farther from the camp. You can witness the process of making clothes with local resources. Mainly you can have conversation with the locals who hardly see the western people. You can know about the local culture, customs and tradition. The people of the region are both Bon Po and Nyingmapa of Buddhist sect. Overnight at Dho Tarap inclusive BLD.
Day 9 : Trek to Numa La Base Camp (4440m)- 7 hrs walk After exploring Dho Tarap village, our journey heads towards Numa La Base Camp which is about 6-7 hours walk. Going upwards from Dho Tarap village, the trial leads you inside the plain valleys with the view of river covered by the green grasses on both of the sides which is really different view than others you can have in this region. We will then follow Tarap Chu upward all the way. After having one hour walk, we will be at Tokyo village where we can see a monastery of Chiba group. We can have some roaming around this village. The trek from here may be little difficult as we have to walk over rough path for about 3 hours. Finally we will be at Numa La Base Camp. Overnight at Numa La Base Camp inclusive BLD.
Day10 : Cross Numa La pass (5190m) and camp at Pelung Tang(4465m)- 7 hrs walk Today we will have to cross Numa La pass of 5190 meters, hence this can be the most difficult and longest trek. After breakfast, we will move on for the pass. The track goes upward where we have to struggle with steeply path up to the top of Numa La pass. But do not worry, after you conquer the path you can have the mesmerizing view of barren mountains of Dolpo up to the Dhaulagiri (8167m). After having some heart catching view, we will descend toward Pelung Camp. Overnight at Pelung camp inclusive full board meals BLD.
Day11 : Cross Baga La (5,070m) and camp Dajok Tang (4,080m) - 7 hrs walk The trek today also goes across high altitude as we have to cross Baga La pass of 5070 meters. The journey commences with a steep climb up to the top of Baga La which is difficult to climb but worth climbing as you can have the beautiful view of surrounding landscapes and snowcapped peaks of Kanjirowa Mountain range. After spending some time, we will walk downward for about 3 hours to reach Dajok Tang. Overnight at Dajok inclusive BLD.
Day12 : Trek to Ringmo (3,600m) - 4 hrs walk Dho Tarap We will start our trek to Ringmo after our breakfast. The route up to Ringmo is about 3-4 hours which goes through pine forest, the vegetation changes for pasture field and alpine shrubs. Furthermore, going little ups and downs we reach Ringmo. Overnight at Rongmo inclusive BLB.
Day13 : >Rest Day at Ringmo and hike to Phoksundo Lake We will take a rest in Ringmo and have some visiting around the Ringmo. We will have the spectacular view of Phoksundu Lake. We can see the caravan of yaks going to the northern side towards the border of Tibet. A little walk and then we can visit the nearby Tibetan Buddhist monastery which is one of the worth?s of Ringmo. The amazing view of Phoksundo Lake and little walk around the lake is the main attraction of the day. Overnight at camp inclusive BLD.
Day14 : Trek to Shyanta (2520m)- 6 hrs walk Today we will descend downwards to Chepka after having breakfast. It is believed that we can get many important medicinal minerals which cure many diseases. Then we pass through some lovely villages. After some more walk, we will reach Shyanta. Overnight at Shyanta at tented camp inclusive BLD.
Day15 : Trek to Juphal - 6 hrs walk After breakfast, we will climb upwards to Juphal via Sulighat. When we each to the top, we can witness the view of mountains. We need to be more cautious while trekking in this route. After we reach Juphal, we can have some visiting around Juphal. Overnight at Juphal inclusive BLD.
Day16 : Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj We will take a flight to Nepalgunj from Juphal then again; we will take another flight to Kathmandu. After we reach Kathmandu, you will be taken to hotel. We don?t have any plans today, so you can either tale rest or have some visit around the hotels.
Day17 : Kathmandu Sightseeing To make your trip more memorable, we will take you to have some sightseeing in the Kathmandu valley. We will be visiting some historical and cultural places. Our program includes sightseeing around Swyambhunath stupa, Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath temple and Kathmandu durbar square. Swyambhunath stupa and Bouddhanath Stupa are famous Buddhist holy places whereas Pashupatinath temple is famous Hindu holy site. Similarly Kathmandu durbar square carries historical values. You can also have some shopping of Nepalese product. Overnight at hotel inclusive breakfast.
Day18 : Departure to home country Today is your departure day, we will drop you to the International airport to catch your flight back to your home and pray for your Safe journey.
