Overview

Are you in search of a short and less crowded trekking route in the Annapurna region? Do you wish to spend a substantial amount of time in the serene Himalayas and escape from busy city life? Mohare Danda Trek is one of those treks that can full fill your desires. The route map of the Mohare Danda Trek was developed by Nepalese scientist ‘Mahabir Pun’.  It is an eco-community lodge trek that was opened for tourists in 2010. You can experience the allure of the mountains, nature, and culture at their most tranquil on our 10-day Mohare Danda Trek itinerary.

Mohare Danda is a beautiful hill station situated at 3,300 meters above between the massif Mt. Annapurna and Dhaulagiri gorge. The trek takes you through the impressive local villages, alpine forests and rivers originated from the mountains. Once you get to Mohare danda, the sunrise and sunset views over the glittering mountains will make you forget all of your life’s problems.

It is the first community-based trek introduced to travelers in the history of Nepal tourism. So, every day you will stay at the typical homestays that are run by the local community on this route. This off-the-beaten trek in Nepal is for those hikers who are looking for an alternative route for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

You can enjoy spectacular views of the mountains such as Mt. Annapurna (8,091m), Dhaulagiri (8,172m), and Nilgiri (70,61m) from the Mohare vantage point. Even more, you can also get an opportunity to explore the ethnic people’s cultures, traditions, and their livelihoods. It’s an amazing experience to walk through a forest of oak, bamboo, and pine trees on this trek.

Accommodations in Mohare Danda Trail

Mohare danda trekking trail is an eco-community lodge-based route. Don’t expect lodging facilities like in the Annapurna and Everest region trek. You must spend the night in a common local homestay that has more than two single bedrooms. This eco community-based trail is opened to promote Eco-tourism in Nepal. The majority of lodges have squat toilets outside the room. So be ready to reduce the likelihood of running out of toilet paper. However, the homestay’s rooms are tidy, cozy, and seems like we have everything we need.

Is the Mohare Danda Trek more difficult than the Ghorepani Trek?

Both treks are similar in terms of their level of difficulty. The highest point of the Mohare Danda Trek is 3,300 meters, whereas the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek’s is just 3,210 meters. These both treks are suitable for beginners. The lodgings and amenities you will have access to throughout the walk are the only differences between these trips. The tea houses along the Mohare danda path are inferior to those along the Ghorepani Poon hill hike, a well-known short hike in Nepal. The lodges along the Mohare danda Trek route are still under construction because it is an off-the-beaten-path route.

Ghorepani Trek can be done in 2-4 days, whereas Mohare Danda Trek requires at least 5-7 days to finish. Because of some extra days, you might find the Mohare Danda Trek to be a little challenging.

The most incredible and closest view of the Himalayan range is offered by the Mohare Danda Trek. In addition, you can learn more about ethnic cultures and lifestyles than on the Ghorepani trek.

When is the best time to visit?

The finest months to embark on the Mohare Danda Trek are March through April in the spring and October through November in the fall. During these seasons, there is a high possibility of precipitation, clear sky, and comfortable temperatures.

In the spring, you may discover the route decked with a variety of flowers. And in the fall, you can enjoy the festive season. The off-seasons are the monsoon and winter. In the rainy season, the route becomes muddy and slippery. Moreover, there is a significant risk of landslides. Similarly, heavy snowfall increases the probability of route obstruction in the winter.

Traveller’s Review

Great fun. Definitely recommended for anyone who loves nature, crisp air and hiking. A hike that is not too difficult to try, just over 3300m. The mountains are amazing, lodging generally is good with nice bed(which is really critically after a day long hike). Food is also quite nice and simple.
The guide and porter are really friendly, fun and knowledgeable, sharing with us to know more about Nepal, the mountains the culture, the people… although the weather was a bit unpredictable and the rain does makes it tougher to hike and clouds the views of the mountains.
The car journey on the Jeep is unbelievable bumpy and super uncomfortable, anyone with a back problem has to be more careful.

Overall, a fantastic trip and wonderful time up in the mountains

I have opted for a less busy trek going through Mohare Danda. Glorious Himalaya (GHT) provided almost a perfect route for our group of 5 people. The 6 days walk was beautiful especially at slightly higher altitudes; the paths and forest was lined with Rhododendron and other flowers. Views from mountain tops were spectacular. Maybe because we opted for a less populated trek, the homestay condition is not as well established in the smaller villages we stopped by. Overall the GHT service was excellent!
